The Housing Crisis From A Christian Perspective
|
Since the fall of man, humanity has slowly traded trust in God for dependence on man-made systems. Over time, even believers have learned to look first to governments and political leaders for solutions that only God can provide. Therefore, the real fault however, lies not with them, but with us — the Church. Christians have surrendered their authority, choosing comfort over conviction and silence over stewardship. Instead of leading, we’ve followed. Instead of governing the land as God commanded, we’ve allowed the world to define justice, economics, and morality. Until the Church repents of its dependence on broken systems and returns to trusting God’s divine order, the world will continue to drift deeper into chaos — and we will have no one to blame but ourselves.

God's concern for shelter and justice: Scripture repeatedly affirms God's concern for the poor and vulnerable. Isaiah 58:7 — “Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter…?”
The Fall Introduced Fear and Dependence
After sin entered the world, man lost his spiritual clarity and confidence in God’s provision. Instead of trusting God as his Source, humanity began depending on human rulers, kings, and institutions for survival. In 1 Samuel 8, Israel demanded a king “like the other nations,” rejecting God’s direct governance. God warned them that human rulers would “take your sons, your daughters, your fields, and the best of your vineyards” — exactly what we see happening today in rising taxes, inflated markets, and manipulated housing costs. Humanity exchanged divine authority for political dependency. The belief that man-made governments can provide what only God intended His people, is only deception.

What We Are All In For If We Don't Take a Stand
Blackstone: Actively buys/rents single-family homes and land; large portfolios; is a significant player in setting the price of Mortgages and Rents. Christians have allowed the world to take control of what God gave us to manage — and now we’re paying the price through unaffordable housing and rent. The crisis in housing costs is a symptom of the Church neglecting its divine mandate to govern the earth with justice, compassion, and wisdom. The rising cost of homes and rent is not just an economic issue — it’s the result of Christians abandoning their God-given authority over the land.
