What Is Transhumanism? (Christian Perspective)
Transhumanism, in this context, shall refer to a being that resembles a human but possesses spiritual powers and abilities beyond those of secular humans, such as heightened intelligence, extraordinary strength, increased durability, and supernatural discernment. From a Christian perspective, this is not the result of artificial enhancements or technology alone—but rather the outcome of being filled with the Holy Spirit, who empowers believers to live beyond the limits of the natural world. When God’s Spirit dwells within a person, they are no longer bound by the constraints of the flesh but walk in divine authority and wisdom.
1 Corinthians 2:14-16 – “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God... But the person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things... ‘We have the mind of Christ.’” This indicates a transcendent intellect, not by machines, but by divine revelation.
Those who are truly born of the Spirit begin to function in ways that defy worldly logic. They can interpret dreams like Joseph (Genesis 41:15–16), display supernatural strength like Samson (Judges 14:6), possess durability of spirit and body like Paul (Acts 28:3–6), and walk in wisdom and prophetic understanding like Daniel (Daniel 1:17–20).
Acts 1:8 – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses...”
The Greek word for "power" is “dunamis”, the root of the word “dynamite”—meaning explosive, miraculous ability. This is not science fiction. It’s Scripture.
Moreover, as stewards of creation and seekers of knowledge, Christians are natural advocates for technological innovation when it is aligned with God’s will. Advancing toward a Type 1 civilization—a stage of development where humanity can harness all the energy of the Earth—could reflect responsible dominion over creation.
Genesis 1:28 – “Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over... every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Daniel 12:4 – “In the last days, knowledge shall increase.”
This verse implies that technological progress is part of God’s timeline.
Yet, as Christians, we understand that true transhuman transformation is not rooted in machines, but in the indwelling of God’s Spirit. That is what separates those walking in divine power from those merely advancing human capacity through artificial means.
Romans 8:11 – “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ... will also give life to your mortal bodies.”
